Since the Celestine Prophecy it is rare nowadays that I find a book that provokes a reaction quite like the roller coaster ride on which I found myself whilst reading Practicing Conscious Living and Dying.

For every hundred books printed on the subject of life after death I find that most regurgitate the same format and content, and there are one or two gems that shine amongst the plethora of literature especially concerning NDE's, or near Death Experiences. For a refreshing change Ms Hemingway has successfully tethered together tenets of her own personal belief system with that of Eastern and Western religions, and Spiritualism resulting in an amazing collection of stories about real people having real experiences that lay bare the raw nerves of situations that we could all easily find ourselves in, if we haven't already.

Reuben's story in particular opened a veritable Pandora's box of feelings and emotions that surfaced like a tidal wave of recognition though my empathic connection with his situation. By the time I finished reading the whole book I had laughed, cried, been awestruck and inspired by the resilience and determination that these people related through their personal accounts of NDE's and subsequent life changes.

I believe that this book will instigate many more people into speaking openly about extraordinary experiences that they may have previously thought twice about sharing. In our society there has been, and still is, a tendency to gloss over the surface of people's experiences and to write them off as consensual hallucinations or temporary lunacy.

The day will come when “the other side” and its inhabitants are readily accepted by the general populace, and the fear of dying will be replaced with the wisdom of the conscious process of dying though which we gain more out of our earthly existence because we are truly focused in it.

Have you ever wondered what it was that you came this planet to achieve? Practicing Conscious Living and Dying doesn't have all the answers but it will definitely make you consider things from a different perspective, and appreciate everything that you have in your life. It gives hope to those who may be suffering and reminds us that being in the service of others is they way to really get to know yourself.
