By Stephanie Scofield (published by trencavel press)

This series of fantasy books will appeal to the young and the young at heart. It is a classic tale of good versus evil, with the hero being a young lad, who, on his quest to locate the elemental ‘saths’, which will save the world from the fire lord, finds enduring friendship and loyalty in lands beyond a gateway. The first 3 books of the series have been published and I look forward to the next instalment due out later this year.

Book 1: the spirit of the greenwood

In this, the first book of the elements quintet, the reader is immediately drawn into the lonely world of 11-year-old Owen shepherd, who, following his father’s mysterious death 7 years previously, has lived alone with his mother in Iceland. They move to Cornwall and Owen’s adventures begin when he rescues a fox from the local bully and follows it through a gateway. From then on he is drawn into a world of magic and intrigue. Initially, in the land known as dayah, where he is met and welcomed by a unicorn. The search then begins for the first sath, the wood sath.

Book 2: the dream of the dolphin

Owen’s quest continues in this second book after he rescues a dolphin from captivity. He passes through the gateway to the water world of BRYAH, where he makes friends with brother and sister, arin and raya. They accompany him in his search for the second sath, the water sath.

Book 3: The heart of the stone

IN THIS THIRD BOOK, OWEN IS REUNITED WITH HIS FRIEND FINN FROM THE LAND OF DAYAH AND TOGETHER WITH ARIN AND RAYA THEY SET OUT TO FIND THE THIRD SATH IN THE REALM OF THE EARTH ELEMENT. ALONG THE WAY THEY ENCOUNTER MORE FANTASTICAL CREATURES AND OWEN MUST TRY TO RESCUE A PRINCESS.

SO, 3 VERY ENJOYABLE ADVENTURE TALES, WITH THE PROMISE OF MORE TO COME. I WOULD WHOLEHEARTEDLY RECOMMEND THEM TO YOUNG READERS AND TO OLDIES LIKE MYSELF WHO LIKE A GOOD BIT OF ESCAPISM.
